Rwanda has improved by six places from 107 to 101 in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released earlier today at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. Despite not being engaged in any competitive match last month, Rwanda’s rise is based on the FIFA ranking calculations which determine the national team’s performances over a four-year period. This is achieved by adding the average number of points gained from matches during the past 12 months and the average number of points gained from matches older than 12 months (depreciates yearly). In the CECAFA region, Rwanda is ranked third behind leaders Uganda who dropped by one position to 73rd and Kenya who dropped from 85th to 89th to fill the second spot. Senegal (33) is top of the table in Africa followed closely by Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia (34) in second place, while Egypt (36) and Algeria (38) complete the top five. Argentina remain top for November, but have seen their command on the summit weakened by close rivals Brazil. After a good run of form in FIFA World Cup qualifying, A Seleção have surpassed Germany now third and closed the distance to their South American neighbours, as the year-end approaches. Chile are fourth moving up by two positions while Belgium drop by one position to fifth place. The December ranking will be the final ranking for 2016 and will reveal the winners for the Team of the Year (awarded to the team in first place by year’s end) and Mover of the Year (awarded to the team that has won the most points over the course of the year). The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 22 December 2016
